Rising Stars Tournament

June 19 & 20, 2021


The Spartans traveled to Oswego, NY for the Rising Stars Tournament. The team was scheduled to play 3 games however the rain in central NY only allowed for 2 games to be played. While the boys did not come home with a championship they played well and our very own Sean landed his first home run of the season hitting the ball deep to center. Both Jayden and David were robbed of home runs hitting a total of 4 balls right to the fence.

Game 1: Spartans vs. Tri City Bombers

The Spartans watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in an 11-3 loss to Tri CIty Bombers.

The Spartans struggled to but runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing the Bombers. The Bombers opened up scoring in the first inning with two runs scoring with a homerun hit by Chase.

The Bombers scored six runs in the second inning with 5 batters moving runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

The Bombers allowed seven hits and three runs over six innings.

Austin H was on the mound for the Spartans. The lefthander surrendered nine runs on seven hits over one and one third innings, striking out one. Mason V three four and two thirds innings in relief.

The Spartans launched one home run on the day with Sean hitting a dinger in the third inning.

Jayden led the Spartans with three hits at three at bats.

Final: Spartans 3, Bombers 11

Game 2: Spartans vs. Bomb Squad Baseball

The Spartans fell to the Bomb Squad 6-5 on Saturday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at five in extra innings whereby the last three outs are placed on base and one out is already against the team. The Spartans were able to get the second out striking out the first batter. The second batter than came to the mound. David toed the rubber in the final inning drawing a ball on the first pitch and then a strike, followed by three balls allowing the winning run to score off the final walk.

The Spartans trailed by four runs in the third inning, but then fought back to lower the final margin. The Spartans scored five runs in the failed comeback on a double by David in the fourth, a single by Anthony in the fifth, a walk by Austin in the sixth, a groundout by Leo in the sixth and a single by Owen in the sixth.

After the Spartans scored one run in the top of the fifth, the Bomb Squad answered with one of their own. The Spartans scored when Anthony singled on a 0-1 count scoring one. The Bomb Squad then answered when they drew a walk scoring one.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Spartans tied things up at five when Owen singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.

Brayden started the game for the Spartans surrendering five runs on 11 hits over four and a third innings, striking out seven and waling one. Mason, Austin and David each contributed in relief for the Spartans.

David went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Spartans in hits. The Spartans did not complete a single error in the field. David had 11 changes in the field, the most of the team. Owen led the Spartans with three stolen bases.
