Spartans Youth Baseball 16U Fights Back in Loss to Grand Island Vikings 16U


Despite a 5-run deficit in the second inning, Spartans Youth Baseball 16U almost came all the way back, eventually falling 8-6 to Grand Island Vikings 16U on Wednesday. Spartans Youth Baseball 16U scored five runs in the failed comeback on a double by David Schnaufer in the third, a home run by Schnaufer in the fifth, a fielder's choice by Owen Bentley in the sixth, and a single by Jaxon DelPriore in the seventh.


Spartans Youth Baseball 16U fell behind early in the loss. Grand Island Vikings 16U scored on a walk by Nicolas Galligan in the first inning and a single by Ranier Khan in the second inning.


Grand Island Vikings 16U fired up the offense in the first inning. Galligan drew a walk, scoring one run.

Khan got the win for Grand Island Vikings 16U. The pitcher allowed nine hits and four runs over five innings, striking out six. Spencer Staszczyk threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Staszczyk recorded the last six outs to earn the save for Grand Island Vikings 16U.


DelPriore took the loss for Spartans Youth Baseball 16U. The bulldog surrendered four runs on two hits over three innings.


Hayden Williams started the game for Spartans Youth Baseball 16U. Williams went one inning, allowing one run on one hit and striking out three


Spartans Youth Baseball 16U tallied one home run on the day. Schnaufer had a dinger in the fifth inning.
